USS Iapetus History
The USS Iapetus is the first ship to ever bear the name, and among the first 100 Luna class ship's to have her keel laid. Her launch was originally scheduled for 2382, but due to some major miscalculations and faulty computer components, her launch has been delayed a further two years while the components at fault were replaced and extensive tests were ran on her.
She was taken out on her shakedown cruise by Lieutenant Commander Sokaar of Starfleet's Corps of Engineering and a small shakedown crew, before being passed on to Rear Admiral Jason Locke of Horizon Fleet's Task Force 22 to pass on to her first Commander - Captain Vorn Krace, formerly of the aged USS Lincoln. Since then, the ship has served with distinction in conflicts and diplomatic situations alike, and was reassigned to Bravo Fleet's Task Force 38 in order to support the Delta Exploration Initiative.
